What is our group all about?
We are teaching the pupils at our school about their rights.
How are we doing this?
We have made some posters to put around the school. We have spoken at the school assembly.
What are we planning to do in the future?
We will create a lesson for the teachers to do with their classes. We will make a video about Children’s Rights. We will design some active lessons.
The Eco Warriors are focusing on sustainability this year.
We are growing our own vegetables and wildflowers (to attract insects) in the planters in our playground. We planted the seeds with the help of our P1/2 buddies.
We have also been busy designing our own 'pocket gardens’.
Currently, we are working towards our next Eco Flag and are very proud of our achievements so far 🙂!
Primary 6 are The Health Committee, aka Wellbeing Coaches!
We have designed our logo which captures our main aim...to have healthy hearts.
We hope to help our school, and community, be healthy and think about our physical and mental wellbeing.
This term we are going to focus on physical health through our idea of 'Move in March'.
All pupils have a voice at Carstairs Primary School.
We regularly and actively seek our pupils' opinions on the work of the school and staff continually act on feedback received from our pupils to help make our school the best that we can be.
We do this through focused whole class discussions, through learning conversations with our pupils, through pupil surveys and questionnaires and through all of the pupil groups above. Chatting informally with pupils at play and lunch times also helps staff to find out the views of our children, so that we may take positive action on their feedback and let them see their voice has a significant impact in our school.
Annually, pupils are consulted, along with all stakeholders, about what they would like to spend our Participatory Budget on. This year the majority of pupils voted for school visits to be subsidised, as did the other stakeholders. We are looking forward to these class adventures!
Pupil voice is also heard in our community...
Our Parent Council, in conjuction with the Community Council, were successful in securing funding to improve the Village Green play facilities. Our children contributed their ideas about the equipment they hoped to have in the new park. We are delighted that the new park, including the equipment requested, finally opened in late summer 2021 and is hugely popular with our pupils and their families.
